Influence is everywhere. It’s smeared all over nature. It takes many different forms and forms many different things. Something as easy and natural as an agreement between people can set a proxy that is mutable and effectual. In other words, our choices can be shared. If we come together around an idea and decide how we are going to apply some value to it, we call it a dollar. First it was silver and gold, and then there were Greenbacks. Before that it was shells and beads, and before that… survival!

Since the dawn of time, humanity’s quest for influence has always come through the medium of communication. Throughout our entire history we have been hard at work, developing more and more sophisticated forms of technology to enhance this endeavor, to connect our influence with others. It is a natural phenomena of humanity to seek out and formulate lasting communities, and as long as everything is good… It’s All Good!

My fascination with this topic started years ago and over the years has grown with the Global Village that has formed online through Social Media. I was recently inspired by Joe Fernandez of Klout.com, when he mention the idea of Klout’s measure being used to grade the influence as a currency through perks, and that’s when the pieces feel into place! The result is this book!!

I believe that the OccupyWallStreet Movement is the result of several different vectors of influences that are going to change the entire Paradigm we live in. There are so many possibilities that it would be a guess to predict what the outcome will be, but one thing is for sure with Socialmedia… It will be something we decide Together!

Light checking his social media influence on his iPod.Summary: With very little help from the mainstream media sources, the #occupywallstreet Movement (as it’s known on Twitter) has grown into a Global movement that has occupied more than a thousand cities Worldwide, and has made Socialmedia Influence – Currency of the Future a must read. It may be the most important information of the 21st Century. It answers the question, why the revolution will NOT be televised!

Michael Light, born and raised in Ventura CA, was first introduced to the computer in 1976. A self taught computer prodigy he wrote his first program at the age of 14. He later pursued a career in web and graphic design, and in 2000, while living in Portland, started his career using social media to promote bands and doing SEO work, eventually founding Klick!.

In 2006 he developed an interest in economics and started his blog Endoflex. His blog analyzed the Fed’s handling of the Subprime Mortgage Industry, before it collapsed in 2008. His interests soon shifted back to social media when he witnessed what he refers to as “the first shot of the revolution”, when MySpace (a News Corp Company) shut down their chat feature on the eve of an LA School District walkout, that had been organized using the same chat feature. This, he says, was his early inspiration for the book.

Light’s succinctly humorous writing style delivers a pretty adventurous and engaging journey through the influence behind the powerful social media community which is changing the world we live in. After reading it you’ll see the entire social media sphere in a completely new way.

The adventure begins in the early days of computing with, “Birth of Cool… NOT!” and takes us for a ride through the early Bulletin Boards and the rise of online social media. From a nerds only club, to viral videos on YouTube, and the Facebook phenomena, it’s a challenge to stop reading.

Facebook, as some of you may already know, has become the tool which has propelled the occupy wall street movement into a Global movement for social change. Almost every city in the World has its very own Facebook page with names like Occupy Hamburg or Auckland. There are pages for countries and even an occupyFacebook page. What’s the drive behind it?

The fact is that the World is changing and being changed by social media, and it’s lucky there are authors like Michael that can see through time to bring us a birds eye view of it. With so much information in the World its not always easy to see. It makes specialists like him more and more important. He crafts his stories in a way that keeps it simple enough to understand, without sacrificing the things that make it amazing. Michael is a gifted story teller with incredibly authentic insights into social media, that may just change your entire perception of it.
